EYFS: Adding Professional Judgements for Students

EYFS: Adding Professional Judgements for Students

In line with the new Early Years Framework 2021, Learning Ladders created an EYFS module which allows teachers to:

'2.1. recognise children’s progress, understand their needs, and to plan activities and support.'

Learning Ladders' EYFS module allows teachers to:

  • Create a bespoke curriculum that reflects the unique needs of the pupils in their setting
  • Customise assessment descriptors that mirror the assessment policy used in school
  • Record observations of significant developments in children's learning
  • View teacher, other professionals and parent observations of children's development

All of these elements allow teachers to draw on their knowledge and other adults involved in learning of the child to make and record professional judgements.

How do I make a judgement?

To add a judgement to the system click on 'Assessment' on the green menu bar.

Use the selectors to choose the Academic Year, Class/Group, Term, Subject, Ladder, Ladder Year and Pupils you would like to make an assessment against.

We have included 'On Entry Assessment' for settings to add their Baseline judgements. Schools have the option to add either half termly or termly options by selecting the applicable terms. Agree as a team how often professional judgements will be added to ensure consistency in reporting.

The names of the pupils in the Class/Group selected will be displayed, along with the half term/terms selected.

Adding Judgements in Bulk

Just below the columns for Attainment and Progress, 'Bulk Assess' is now an option. To use this feature, click on 'Bulk Assess' and a drop down will appear offering options to bulk assess by one of the schools' chosen judgments. The judgements relate to the Assessment Descriptors set in your assessment policy. Hover over the codes to see the descriptor.

After a bulk judgment has been applied, you can amend individual judgements or apply a new bulk judgment if you need to.

Adding a singular judgement

In the columns for Attainment and Progress teachers click on the drop down arrow to select a judgement for each child.

Next to each Judgement is the ability to add a 'Note'. The effectiveness of your assessment is in the conversations that are sparked and the resulting provision put in place. Why not add a note as a springboard for conversation about children's unique development needs in your team meetings?

To add a Note click on the 'Add' button and type in the note. Click on 'Save note'. Judgements with notes attached have the eye icon. Notes can be edited or added to by viewing the note, typing and clicking on 'Update Note'.

How often should I add judgements?

We have given choices to schools by including half termly or termly options for Judgements to be added. Discuss this with your team to ensure consistency.

Where can I view the judgements I've made?

Teachers are able to export Judgements as a CSV file or view the judgements in Assessment Summary
