Observations within Learning Ladders are created using multiple categories or filters. Within the observation manager, users are able to refine the filters/selections to narrow a search to particular categories. These include:
- Academic Year
- Class or Groups
- Terms,
- Ladder or Area of Learning
- Student
- Year Group (eg Reception)
Within the Observation Manager, users are able to 'print to pdf' the list of observations currently showing. Each observation will include the following information:
- Title
- Description
- Term
- Date
- Student
- Subject
- Ladder/Area of Learning
- Ladder Year (eg Reception)
- Rungs/Objectives linked

Printing Observations to PDF (electronic file)
It is possible, using the filters in the observation manager to refine which observations you would like to include the the PDF file. This can be done with any of the selectors/filters shown below.
Once the selections have been made, click Print Selections towards the top right of the page.
Please note, the default number of observations displayed (and therefore will be printed) is 30. If you want All observations selected, ensure you change this at the bottom left of the page.
The Print Observation window will open, click 'Print' on the right-hand side to then view the browsers print dialogue window.
On this page, which will look slightly different depending on the browser you use, you should see a similar view to below.
- Indicates the number of pages the print function is working with
- This is the type of print the browser is intending to do.
- If you are intending to create a file that will include all of the selections you have chosen, we recommend 'Save to PDF' as this will be a smaller file size to easily share with colleagues or people outside of school. PDF files can be viewed/opened on most computers.
- Alternatively, choose the printer you want to print the selections with
- Change this option if you want to print a specific number of pages, but bear in mind the unprinted pages will contain some of the selected observations.
- Choosing a number of pages will not mean all observations are included on that number of pages
- Indicates the page layout, Portrait or Landscape.
- We recommend using Landscape as this will fit more observations on each page
- Unfortunately, we cannot control how the browser print function arranges the observations on the page and so an observation may split across two.
- Saves the options and initiates the print process, whether this is to a file (PDF) or printer.
The following dialogue box will allow you to to name the file (if saving to PDF) and select where you would like to save it.
