Summative Assessment Set-up Guide

Summative Assessment Set-up Guide

In addition to formative assessment tracking, schools can also import summative assessments to create comparisons between data.

NB: Currently all summative assessments must have an SAS score to be imported into Learning Ladders. Summative is currently for commercial assessments with standardised scores, rather than internal tests.

Follow the steps to customise your settings and import your summative assessments.

TABLE OF CONTENTS

1. Set Expectations

Before importing summative assessments, an admin user must first customise the settings.
  • Click on Settings> Settings> Summative Assessments> Expectations

In this section you are able to make changes to your expectations; number range, code, name and colour.

  • To make changes to your expectations click 'Edit expectations'. The information already present is the system default for score ranges, expectation names, colours and codes.
  • Once you have made the changes, click 'save changes'.

2. Add Data Sources

Add your data source by clicking on 'Add Data Source'. This must be a data source with standardised scores.

3. Select Subjects

Manage the subjects you will import summative data into.
These subjects will be available in the subject selector used to generate the import file for summative assessment.

For each subject you can import SAS, Overall Stanine and NPR scores into Learning Ladders but the system uses the SAS score for report.

To change the subjects simply click on the 'Edit' button to the right and 'Enable/Disable' depending on your requirements, clicking 'Save' if you have made a change.

4. Generate CSV for Export

To import summative test scores you need to use a file which is generated within Learning Ladders. This is then populated with the pupils SAS, NPR and Overall Stanine scores.

  • Select the data source or sources (you can select more than one)
  • Select the term you'd like to import the data for
  • Select the Academic year you'd like to import the data into
  • Choose the subject and target class/year group.
  • Once all of these options are selected, click 'Generate CSV'

This CSV file will be saved into your regular downloads location.

You may need to 'Allow' this action, depending on your computer's settings.

This file will now provide you with the columns which you need to populate with the pieces of data which you have set in the system (SAS, Overall Stanine and NPR), so you can pull in the relevant data as dictated by your settings and populate the columns with scores.

Once you have populated all of this document, your CSV is ready to be imported into Learning Ladders.

To complete the import, click Settings in the blue menu bar in Learning Ladders, then Settings again and select the 'Summative Assessments' tab on the right and click 'import file'.

5. Import File

To complete the import, click Settings> Settings> Summative Assessments> Import File.

There is a checklist contained within this section and another 'Generate file' option if needed.
  • Select the subject being imported
  • Click on the 'Choose file' button to find the CSV in your computer and upload it (ensure that this has been saved as a CSV file!)
  • Once the file has been uploaded click 'import'.

If there are any errors with the import, please re-check your data in the CSV file and run the import again. You will be notified of any issues/errors.

The system will not remove or delete data if you import the file more than once, it will just insert or amend the data based on the import.

6. View Summative data in a report

Once you have completed the settings, teachers are able to generate reports to view the summative data.
