The Curriculum Lab: How to Search for Resources

This article explains the areas where The Curriculum Lab can be used to search for resources as well as a step by step guide for how to search.

Where on my Learning Ladders site can I search for resources using The Curriculum Lab?

Gap Analysis- Spotted an assessment the majority of your class haven't met? Use the Curriculum Lab tab to Search for a resource for your lessons to plug that gap.  Filter the resources by year group for specific age appropriate resources.  

Class Assessment- Save time by filtering resources by Keyword Focus for resources to teach individual rungs or filter by age for specific resources for upcoming rungs to be covered. 

Students- Focus on a specific pupil's assessment.  The innovative Curriculum Lab search function pulls in the subject and Ladder for teachers based on their selections to search for resources to meet a particular' student's needs.  Have an intervention to plan for? Search quickly and easily for the right resource for that individual and pass this on to a colleague for sessions resourced at the right level to fill gaps in learning for any rung.

Ladders at Home: Homework- Use The Curriculum Lab to search for resources to include as 'helpful links' within Homework that you share.  Differentiate the resources you suggest for different groups within your class by filtering the resources by year.  Ensure that homework links directly to your classes' assessments.  

Articles- Search for resources to include in your own articles to publish for parents to read.  Easily check the suitability of the resources by clicking on the title and then copying and paste the link directly into your homework or articles with just a few clicks.

The Creation Zone- Let the Curriculum Lab help you multitask by allowing you to build and make changes to your curriculum in the Creation Zone alongside your search for the perfect resource to use in the delivery of the lessons.  

How do I use 'The Curriculum Lab' search bar?

The Curriculum Lab tab can be found in the same place across all 6 areas of the site. Follow the same instructions as below for the Creation Zone.
  • Click on 'Creation Zone' on the left-hand blue menu.  
  • Click on the 'Curriculum Lab' tab to open the search window.


  • Within the Creation Zone the subject field is already pre-populated based on the subject you are viewing.
                                        
  • You have the option to search for resources based on individual Ladder Keywords by clicking on the downward arrow on the 'Select Keywords...' drop-down menu.

  • Results can be filtered further by specifying the year group focus for the resource.  To select the year group you would like a resource for click on the downward arrow on the drop-down menu 'Year'.

  • The Curriculum Lab will search for resources from all of our Partners and will display a list of resources from each source below the section 'Results'.
  • You are able to search keywords within your results to further refine the resources offered.

                                              

  • The result will inform you of the source of the resource e.g. BBC, Oak as well as the name of the page and a short description.  Click on the name of the page to open up a new tab and take you to that resource.

Once on the resource you are able to tag the resource or add it to your favourites.

To search all resources available from all of our partners use the 'Manual Search' to search for keywords.
