Edit or Add student attributes to students in bulk or individually
Before you can edit or add default or custom student attributes to students you must create the attribute in settings.
Read the article: Create default or custom student attributes.
Once you have created your custom student attributes, you will see these within Students > Import Students.
Click on the i button to view the response required.
How to assign attributes to students
If a school has an active MIS integration, default attributes will sync into student's information in Learning Ladders (as long as the same reference is used). An MIS integration cannot sync a custom attribute from the MIS into Learning Ladders.
Without an MIS integration, or to assign custom attributes, you must use the student import file to add the attribute to students in bulk.
CAUTION: To avoid duplicates of students, the same UPN must be used to update information for a student. For this reason, for existing schools we suggest downloading your student data from the Student Import File page.
New Schools
Go to Students > Import Students > Download Student Import Template
Existing Schools
Go to Students > Import Students > Download Student Data
Your Student Data will export as a .csv file and is found in your Downloads. The file contains the UPNs held in Learning Ladders, first name, last name, date of birth, gender, class group, year group as well as any further attributes currently assigned.
Do not amend the UPN numbers in this file. Doing so will create duplicate students in your Learning Ladders site. If you require an update to students' UPN numbers, please contact the team at support@learningladders.info for guidance.
This file enables you to edit or add a default or custom attribute. It cannot delete an attribute.
To remind yourself of the response required you can refer to the list in Students > Import Students where the 'i' icon gives the response required.
Please note, a student will not be updated at all if you enter an incorrect response for a custom attribute. For example, if Homegrown is yes/no and I enter '2024', when the file is imported, an error will be shown explaining the student will not be updated.
Assign a custom attribute to an individual student manually
Click on students> students and search for the student. Click on the eye icon to view information about
the student.
Click the 'Edit' button (only available to Learning Ladder's Admin user) on the top of the page. Scroll down to 'Student Attributes' on the 'Update a student' page. Use the drop down menu to select the attribute to assign to the student and click 'Update Student' to save.
If you have any questions about default attributes or custom student attributes, please reach out to the team at support@learningladders.info
