The Curriculum Lab: How to Refine your Search

This article explains how to refine your search using the Refine Results bar and Manual Search option.

[The Curriculum Lab is currently in BETA (testing version) and available to UK members only, and will be launched fully and to all members in January 2021]
Please read the article, 'The Curriculum Lab: How to search for resources' to get started using this feature.

Refine Results

The 'Refine Result' search bar allows you to refine the results generated in your search by key word.  The search bar can be found below the header 'Results'.

An example of effective use of 'Refine Result':

Within Gap Analysis a teacher identifies a gap in learning within particular Ladders and rungs across their class.  The Curriculum Lab tab can be opened to search for resources specific to that subject and ladder.

A handful of children in the class have been identified to have gaps in their understanding of Addition, so the 'Addition' Ladder can be selected within Keywords Focus and the subject and year group filtered to show appropriate resources.

Resources will be listed underneath the heading 'Resources' by scrolling down the Curriculum Lab window.

'Refine Results' can be used to search for resources to support children in closing a gap within a specific rung.  'Addition within 20' will refine the results given to show appropriate resources to match these keywords.

'Refine Results' only refines the results within your current search selection. To search for a keyword in an open search of all our partners, use 'Manual Search'.
Manual Search

Manual search is used to search for any resource across all of our partners.

To access the manual search bar, click on the 'Manual Search' tab within the Curriculum Lab window.  Type in keywords to suit your search requirements and then click on the blue 'Search' button to the right.

Results will be displayed below the search bar that contain your keywords.
Manual Search is best for searching for resources that are not specific to a rung or Ladder e.g. when studying non-fiction texts with year 1 a teacher may require a resource about different arctic animals and search for penguins, polar bears etc.
