Using Teacher Judgements in Learning Ladders

Using Teacher Judgements in Learning Ladders

There are two ways to generate Attainment and Progress judgements in Learning Ladders.

The first is teachers record formative assessments against the individual end of year learning outcomes (rungs).  The system uses a calculation based on the expectations set by SLT for each subject, to automatically generate Attainment and Progress judgements from this data.  In this scenario, Teacher Judgements are used for edge cases where a teacher's judgement overrides the formative assessment.  For example, this could be an absent student, or a student new to the school who is missing formative assessments.  This is why in the Teacher Judgement page you see an automated, recommendation for Attainment and Progress.

The second scenario is that schools use Teacher Judgements as a point in time judgement.  Schools may record formative assessment in Learning Ladders but wish to record a teacher's own professional judgement for Attainment and Progress, or use only point in time judgements to record Assessment.

How to access Teacher Judgements

The process for recording and viewing Teacher Judgements is the same, whichever scenario your school uses the Teacher Judgements in.

Click on Classes & Groups in the blue navigation menu and select 'Teacher Judgements' from the options.

Use the selectors to select the Academic Year, Class / Group, Term and Subject.

An automated, recommended judgement based on your school's expectations and individual assessments will be displayed in the left column.
To the right is the drop down selector for the Attainment or Progress judgement to enter a Teacher Judgement.

How to record a Teacher Judgement

Either click on the Teacher Judgement in the right column for Attainment or Progress and select a Judgement from your school's Assessment Summary descriptors.  Or, use the Bulk Assessment button to select an assessment to apply in bulk to students. The judgement automatically saves.

.

Please note, if you are using the Teacher Judgements as an override, you do not need to enter judgements for all students. Learning Ladders will use the recommended judgements within Assessment Summary unless a Teacher Judgement exists. If a Teacher Judgement exists this will be used within Assessment Summary when viewing half-terms.

Add a Note to your judgement by clicking on the  '+ Add' button to the right of the Teacher Judgement.

Type your note and click 'Update Note' to save.  View the note by clicking on the eye icon next to 'View'.  To edit the note, make changes and click on 'Update Now'.

From the Teacher Judgement page you can click 'Full Screen' to fit more students on the page, or 'Export CSV' to export the judgements into .Csv format.

Tip: You can jump to Gap Analysis from here in order to help inform the judgement that you are entering by clicking on 'Go To Page', or go directly to view the judgements in Assessment Summary.

Where to view Teacher Judgements

Teacher Judgements can be viewed in Assessment Summary and Insight Reports which use a half term Assessment Window.

In Assessment Summary, you can choose the 'Data Source'.  The default is 'Calculated and/or Teacher Judgements' which displays the automated judgement unless a Teacher Judgement has been entered.  You can choose to view 'Calculated Judgements Only' which shows only automate judgements generated by the calculation of granular assessments, or 'Teacher Judgements Only' which displays only Teacher Judgements.

Teacher judgements are not taken into account for 'Cumulative Progress' in Assessment Summary as this is calculated from granular assessment data.

Multiple Subject view allows you to view your Teacher Judgements in an exportable table.  Choose the Data Source and 'Export' to export the judgements in a .CSV. Learn more about Multiple Subject View.
