EYFS: Assessment Framework development in Learning Ladders
Your EYFS Assessment Framework is entirely separate from the Assessment Framework in the Primary Learning Ladders. Changes made in EYFS will not affect the Primary Learning Ladders Framework for the rest of the school.
The new statutory Early Years Framework document outlines the requirement for practitioners to "consider the individual needs, interests, and development of each child in their care, and must use this information to plan a challenging and enjoyable experience for each child in all areas of learning and development". (DfE Statutory framework for the early years foundation stage)
With the Programmes of Learning the only statutory requirement, Early Years settings have the freedom to create their own curriculums in Learning Ladders. There are choices for schools setting up their curriculum on Learning Ladders:
With all options teachers then have the ability to customise the statements using the Creation Zone. The Creation Zone is where you can rename, edit, delete or add Ladders.
Only school Admin users have access to make changes to curriculum statements. This is to protect the curriculum from unauthorised changes.
Learning Ladders uses it's own unique terminology when referencing the Assessment Framework
Key:
- Ladders = Area of Learning or aspect
- Rung= Statement or objective
- My Ladders = Your live curriculum
- Creation Zone= Where you can make changes to the Assessment Framework
All objectives are organised around year groups e.g. Birth to 3, Nursery, Reception. Early Learning Goals are within Reception.
What's next after setting up the assessment framework?
With the removal of the 'exceeding' statements from the Framework, schools still face a need to provide challenge for children working beyond age related statements. Why not create your own challenge Ladders to provide greater depth without moving children onto Year one objectives? Find out how in this article.
Do you have other professionals involved in children's learning e.g. SENCO, Speech& Language? Why not set up parallel curricula statements to incorporate these curriculum statements for all of the team to view.
